Jera is Japan\u2019s biggest buyer of Qatari LNG under long-term contracts, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;The escalation of tensions in the energy-rich Persian Gulf probably won\u2019t disrupt LNG supplies to Qatar\u2019s main customers in Asia, according to\u00a0Robin Mills, head of Dubai-based consultant Qamar Energy. \u201cIn principle Qatar should still be able to export via its own waters, Iran and Oman,\u201d Mills said.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Saudi Arabia and three allied Arab countries <a title=\"Saudi-Led Alliance Moves to Isolate Qatar Over Iran Tensions (1)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/politics\/articles\/2017-06-05\/saudi-led-alliance-cuts-qatar-ties-as-gulf-crisis-escalates\" target=\"_blank\">cut ties<\/a> with Qatar on Monday, escalating a crisis that started over the emirate\u2019s relationship with Iran, a Saudi rival in the region. The governments of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt said in statements they will suspend air and sea travel to and from Qatar. &#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure-expandable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-type=\"image\" data-id=\"314136406\" data-image-type=\"chart\" data-image-size=\"full\" data-align=\"center\" data-chart-type=\"bar\">\n<div class=\"image\">\n<div id=\"lazy-img-314136406\" class=\"lazy-img\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy-img__image loaded aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.bwbx.io\/images\/users\/iqjWHBFdfxIU\/ifDVvnSeJ4CA\/v1\/800x-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"258\" data-native-src=\"https:\/\/assets.bwbx.io\/images\/users\/iqjWHBFdfxIU\/ifDVvnSeJ4CA\/v1\/-1x-1.png\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Qatar exported 79.62 million tons of LNG last year, or 30 percent of global supply,\u00a0according to the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers, known by\u00a0its French acronym GIINGL. State-run <a title=\"Company Overview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/16453Z:QD\">Qatar Petroleum<\/a>, the world\u2019s fourth-largest oil and natural gas producer, has only five Middle Eastern customers for its gas &#8212; Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, the U.A.E. and Egypt. LNG exports to these countries comprised about 10 percent of Qatar\u2019s total shipments in 2016, GIINGL data show.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;\u201cI presume LNG exports to the U.A.E. will stop,\u201d\u00a0Qamar Energy\u2019s Mills said. \u201cThe U.A.E. will have to use other suppliers, but there are plenty of cargoes around at the moment.\u201d&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Qatar, like Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E., is also a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The emirate is the group\u2019s third-smallest producer, pumping 620,000 barrels a day of crude oil in May, data compiled by Bloomberg show, and ships most of its crude and condensate to Asia.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Aside from sending LNG and oil by ship, Qatar exports natural gas through a pipeline operated by <a title=\"Company Overview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/BDCO:US\">Dolphin Energy<\/a>, which is owned by Abu Dhabi\u2019s <a title=\"Company Overview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/338249Z:UH\">Mubadala Development Co.<\/a>, <a title=\"Company Overview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/FP:FP\">Total SA<\/a> and Occidental Petroleum Corp. The link supplies gas to the U.A.E. and Oman and can send 3.2 billion cubic feet per day, though it only uses about two-thirds of that capacity.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Gas continues to flow normally\u00a0through the Dolphin pipeline to the U.A.E. and Oman, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. There is no sign that supplies will be cut, they said, asking not to be identified because the information isn\u2019t public.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;A potential shutdown of the pipeline would cause a \u201csevere problem\u201d in the U.A.E. as demand for electricity peaks in the summer, Mills said.
