{"id":8228,"date":"2017-08-21T12:25:04","date_gmt":"2017-08-21T17:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nrgibroker.com\/?p=8228"},"modified":"2017-08-21T13:00:56","modified_gmt":"2017-08-21T18:00:56","slug":"mexico-becomes-increasingly-important-for-u-s-energy-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nrgibroker.com\/en\/mexico-becomes-increasingly-important-for-u-s-energy-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexico Becomes Increasingly Important For U.S. Energy Exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; font-family: Helvetica;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Mexico-Becomes-Increasingly-Important-For-US-Energy-Exports.html\">From Oil Price<\/a> \/\u00a0By <a href=\"http:\/\/oilprice.com\/contributors\/Tsvetana-Paraskova\">Tsvetana Paraskova<\/a> &#8211; Aug 14, 2017, 10:30 AM CDT<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;U.S. energy sales account for more than 50 percent of Mexico\u2019s current energy imports as Mexican energy reforms open the market and as the country is switching to natural gas-fired electricity production, the Washington Examiner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/mexico-fast-becoming-the-uss-largest-market-for-energy-exports-report-says\/article\/2631329\">reported<\/a> on Monday, citing an S&amp;P Global Platts report due to be released this week.&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;\u201cPipeline imports of U.S. natural gas make up nearly 60 percent of total Mexican natural gas supply, compared to just 22 percent in 2010,\u201d the report, viewed by the Washington Examiner, said.&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;\u201cPlatts Analytics expects that U.S. natural gas imports will rise to nearly 70 percent of total supply by 2022,\u201d according to the report.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=29892\">EIA<\/a>, the U.S.-Mexico energy trade has significantly changed in recent years. Historically, the energy trade has been driven by Mexico\u2019s sales of crude oil to the United States and by U.S. net exports of refined petroleum products to Mexico.&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;The value of U.S. energy exports to Mexico, including rapidly growing volumes of both petroleum products and natural gas, exceeded the value of U.S. energy imports from Mexico in 2015 and 2016, as volumes of Mexican crude oil sold in the United States continued to drop. Last year, the value of U.S. energy exports to Mexico was US$20.2 billion, while the value of U.S. energy imports from Mexico was US$8.7 billion, according to the EIA.&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;According to the S&amp;P Global Platts report, as carried by the Washington Examiner:<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">\u201cUnable to meet growing demand with local production, Mexico is opening its refined products markets to competition.\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-8229 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/nrgibroker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/shutterstock_11679706-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_11679706\" width=\"368\" height=\"251\" \/>\u201cImports of U.S. petroleum products over the first four months of 2017 were up over 125 percent year-on-year. Mexico is in the process of expanding its refined products pipelines and terminals, and allowing outside access to existing assets.\u201d&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\">&#8220;In May this year, ExxonMobil <a href=\"http:\/\/news.exxonmobil.com\/press-release\/exxonmobil-launch-mobil-branded-service-stations-and-fuels-mexico\">announced<\/a> plans to enter the Mexican fuels market in 2017 by opening its first Mobil service station in central Mexico during the second half, and additional stations will open later this year.
