In recent years, Mexico has spent an average $1 billion buying the hedges.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"regwall\" data-position=\"2\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">Deputy Finance Minister Vanessa Rubio said in mid October that Mexico <a title=\"Mexico Says World\u2019s Largest Oil Hedge Has Been Completed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-10-16\/mexico-says-world-s-largest-oil-hedge-has-been-completed\" target=\"_blank\">completed<\/a> its annual oil hedge for 2018. Mexico buys put options from a small group of investment banks each year in what\u2019s considered Wall Street\u2019s largest &#8212; and best-concealed &#8212; annual oil hedge.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"regwall\" data-position=\"3\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"regwall\" data-position=\"3\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">Mexico Finance Ministry proposed a 2018 public budget in September projecting oil exports revenue at $46 per barrel. Lawmakers increased that assumption earlier this month to $48.5.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"regwall\" data-position=\"4\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p data-tout-type=\"story\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\"><a title=\"Click for full story\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2017-04-04\/uncovering-the-secret-history-of-wall-street-s-largest-oil-trade\" target=\"_blank\">Uncovering the secret history of Wall Street\u2019s biggest oil trade, Click here<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">Finance Minister Jose Antonio Meade said in an interview in September that Mexico would likely expand its oil hedge marginally for 2018 as it liberalizes gasoline prices, while the cost for the government to protect crude exports against a drastic drop in prices would be about the same as for this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12pt;\">The Mexican oil hedge runs from the beginning of December until the end of November.
